FarmVille: 171,000 installs on day one, a million a day by week one, no marketing

After walking away from buying Farm Town when its founder doubled his price to $80M, Zynga launched its own 'proven better less' version. FarmVille went viral without marketing and passed Farm Town's 4M DAUs within weeks.

“We turned on FarmVille and I think it did like 171,000 installs the first day with no marketing. It was just viral. It just was viral. And then we were doing like a million installs a day by the end of the first week with no marketing. And, you know, we passed FarmTown within like 3 or 4 weeks. They were at like 4 million DAUs.”
