Beat Caterpillar on speed: AI that quotes while the tech is on site

Nick says OnPoint beats giants like Caterpillar, Cummins and Generac on speed, not price. Quotes for generator repairs usually take weeks because of complex parts and tribal knowledge, so he fed every document the company has ever produced into a retrieval (RAG) system that lets technicians get answers and quotes on the spot.

“For us, and AI has been an absolutely central part of our strategy of speeding up every single process in that business. I need to be able to deliver a quote while my guy's there. These are complex machines with a very difficult parts supply chain. It can take weeks to turn around a quote from a, hey, your generator's broken to, hey, here's what it's going to cost me to fix it.”

Steal thisLoad every past quote, report and manual into an AI retrieval system so field staff can quote on the spot while slow incumbents take weeks.

Brief techs like CIA agents, then turn their reports into training

Experienced generator technicians are scarce, and each one only sees 1–2 jobs a day. OnPoint gives techs an AI-generated pre-job audio briefing on every unit, has them dictate their field reports by voice, and uses AI to flag the best reports as training material, so one job becomes many reps for the whole team.

“So we prepare these guys to go out to the field like they're CIA agents being dropped into Afghanistan, right? Here's everything we know about this unit. Here's everything we've ever seen. Like, they play it on their phone. They can listen and hear, hey, This is what I'm, this is what I'm facing. And so, and that's the AI side.”

Steal thisGive every field job an AI pre-briefing, capture reports by voice, and recycle the best ones as training so skills build faster than the job count.
