Curiosity is the grandma's remedy that fixes unrelated problems
After Sam's story of a quiet billionaire who made him feel important, Shaan reframes 'make people feel important' (which can sound manipulative) as simply being curious: genuine curiosity makes people feel interesting and builds affinity. It works inward too. His coach's advice when he feels bad is 'don't feel bad, just get curious,' which shifts the brain into a childlike state and takes the edge off guilt or shame.
“Curiosity is kind of like that, where almost all these unrelated problems can be solved with curiosity. I'll give you an example. One is what we're talking about here, which is when you're actually curious about somebody, you will appear interested in them because you are interested in them. And then they feel interesting and they feel like you took it because you took an interest in them. They feel an affinity towards you.”
Steal thisNext time you feel bad, don't fight it. Ask yourself: what is this, why do I feel it, and has it happened before?
